Guitar 62 – Fruit of the Vine

Drew, a musician from New Jersey, is also a wine connoisseur.   This round shouldered Dreadnought suits his playing style as a rhythm guitarist well.  The soundboard is European spruce, and the back and sides are cocobolo.

The inlays are grapevines with clusters of purple grapes.  The leaves are green abalone, and the grapes are Paua abalone.  I chose the most purple abalone pieces I could find, and then scribed the circular grape shapes into the shell.  I then inked in the scribed lines.  the rosette is Paua abalone.

The headstock inlay is a Celtic cross in mother of pearl with a grapevine.  Wine is a sacrament, right?

I like this shoulder view of the guitar.  Everything comes together here at the neck block – the top, the sides, the back, the neck, and all the trim.
